I wouldn't say that personally. How could I possibly make a statement like that without justifying it in some way. Ken Kutaragi, who is considered to be the father of the Playstation, is reported to have said these things. PS3 is “for consumers to think to themselves ‘I will work more hours to buy one’. We want people to feel that they want it, irrespective of anything else." What the??? How does a console instill discipline? This is coming from the chairman of Sony. Maybe he was confused and thought he was addressing his workers before their morning exercise. "I believe we made the most beautiful thing in the world. Nobody would criticize a renowned architect's blueprint that the position of a gate is wrong. It's the same as that." Well, I don't believe that a console has to have some form of inherent beauty, much like the saying, you don't look at the mantle piece while you are stocking the fire. I don't look at the console while I am playing a game. Who really cares what a console looks like? I personally don't. I am not vain enough to care about all of the pieces of crap that I have put in to my lounge room looking the same.
Here is a classic PS3 quote from Ken,
“The PS3 is not a game machine." Well, if it is not a games machine then what is it? A convergence device? A digital hub which connects your lounge room to the interweb?
“We’re not going to equip the PS3 with a HDD by default, because no matter how much capacity we put in it, it won’t be enough.” So, some is better than none? No I've got that wrong. Ken's philosophy is that none is better than some. I dunno about that. It seems like a means to market a hard drive as an add on product for the consumer to purchase and Sony to make more money on.
Anyway, do a google search of Ken Kuturagi quotes. Definitely worth the five minutes of laughter.

Just as an after thought. I've got a Sony PSP. It is an excellent hand held. But the other default software, especially the MP3 software is absolute crap. Is this the type of garbage that Sony are going to put on the PS3. Why haven't they made an effort to make the PSP a decent portable media player instead of making it a shitty third rate player.
I already have a 60 gig Creative MP3 player (which I have had for 3 years). I would be happy to trade this in for the PSP if the PSP wasn't crap at playing MP3s. For a company that supposedly Pioneers the music industry sometimes I wonder if they have any clues at all.
