The Bitter Sweet truth as the Bioshock Release Date Confirmed

I think the bane of every gamer's existence is release dates. On the one hand you want to know when a game is going to be released. It gives you something to look forward to. A little nugget of hope in your existence which makes the time between game releases bearable. On the other hand, you find that it is best to take scheduled release dates with a grain of salt. More often than not they are pushed back. Game releases create a very bitter sweet taste in your mouth. You want games to be released when first announced but you don't get your hopes up too much that they will. Then if they do happen, by some strange twist of fate, to get released on the scheduled release date the first time around then you rejoice. But you never pin your hopes on the originally scheduled release date.

It just so happens that Bioshock is one of those games which I have been looking forward to. It just so happened that I was living under the illusion that the release date for this game was going to be in March. However, it has been announced that the official release date is, in fact, August 21st. That's another six months away. Surely, they knew that they were six months of finishing the game a while ago. Why did they have to wait until a month before the proposed release date to announce that it was going to be pushed back?

So, the gaming industry pretty much rolls on the same as always. The best thing to do is to not get your hopes up about anything. Don't read game previews. Don't look at proposed release dates. Wait until games are released and be pleasantly surprised by what you play without being tainted by the publicity machine which rolls ahead of games' releases in a merry vacuum oblivious of the gamers who fund their tyranny of misinformation and hot air.
